Atelier Rouge transforms Chinese contemporary fashion by eradicating old stereotypes that might have plagued their country.  Designers PJ & M express a new nation in their collection—one that is shaped by creative energy and traditional craftsmanship. Their ready-to-wear collection features colorful peasant patterns as well as apparel pieces fashioned to inscribe new ideals. One shirt in particular displays a smiling Mao in his youth, alluding to Atelier’s concept of “a new hopeful China that smiles at the future.” ARP is also an uncensored platform to create jewelry—amongst the gold and silver collection is a Communist star with bullet holes symbolizing freedom and movement into a new era.

Following the footsteps of other Avant Garde designers before her, Liu Yanyuan experiments with fabrics that are unique to the fashion world, yet are practical for daily wear. Her fur cardigan, made from raccoon, provides the same functional properties as cashmere, except that it sheds less. She has a keen eye for trends and is not afraid to create outside the box.

biography zhangchi2Chi Zhang

Chi Zhang’s brand was created to overturn the association that “MADE IN CHINA” has with poorly manufactured products. Instead, Chi Zhang plasters the words “MADE IN CHINA” on expertly constructed street wear and sport jerseys to showcase the creative use of textiles and fabrics. His East-meets-West aesthetic can be viewed all through his designs where digital print expresses ecological concerns. His “Fxxk Air Pollution” is a theme in his collection—sleeveless jerseys feature a gas mask at the heart of their pattern. He is one of China’s most promising designers and his apparel will easily penetrate the shelves of many stores in the US.

After graduating from College of Liaoning institute of art and design, designer Eran Hui spent several years working for commercial brands before finally launching his own label. HUI BY ERAN HUI mixes European tailoring with American street style, but with Hui’s own personal color preference and fabrics. His current collection plays with some of the more pop-oriented trends in Asia, but his overall design aesthetic is very clued in to western culture. He is vastly becoming a must have amongst Chinese celebrities.
